Another round of wintry weather is on the way to the Northeast on Jan. 21, but most areas won't get much accumulation.

Recent snowstorms have brought over half a foot of snow to parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with lake effect snow causing higher local totals in isolated areas. The ongoing weather has led to hazardous travel conditions, including pileups and reduced visibility, particularly in Pennsylvania and Michigan, where authorities have advised against unnecessary travel.

Cold temperatures are expected to persist, with further snow showers and a clipper system forecast to impact the Great Lakes and Northeast regions. The heaviest snow bands could produce up to 18 inches of accumulation, and residents are advised to remain cautious as conditions are likely to worsen later in the week.

I want to take a quick look back at snow totals over the last 24 hours. A lot of this was from our coastal storm. You're seeing some of it fade compared to a couple hours ago because a lot of this fell more than 24 hours ago. Massachusetts, Rhode Island with some of the top snow totals there more than half a foot. And then the lake effect snow, of course, much more isolated as far as where we have the snow on the ground. But the snow totals, of course, a little bit bigger. So taking a look at where we have the concerns the rest of tonight. Well, it's where we have the blue. The winter storm warnings, especially in the darker shade winter weather advisories. It's mostly lake effect snow, but certainly has been impactful, especially with those pileups, crashes and drops in visibility are mostly to blame. We've seen it in Pennsylvania to a lot of snow squall reports have been coming in throughout the day. So where do things stand with our wind gusts right now? Well, Buffalo staying strong 38 MPH gusts earlier today in the four o'clock hour, we had 50 plus mile per hour gusts. Now that gets into a whole other threshold of issues because of the wind. But even what you're seeing now, Detroit not measuring a gust at the time of the last data update here, but we're still concerned about blowing snow. That's the big takeaway here. Michigan, especially Michigan State Police telling people if you don't have to be out on the road, don't be right now just because they've had several crashes because of just really not safe conditions. We head into tomorrow and it's more of the same. We will see a clipper move into the northern plains. We'll talk about that in a couple minutes. But 17 degrees in Buffalo, it gets a bit better as we head to the coast mid twenties in New York. But still, that's below our historical average. And you can guess that because the blue thermometer there tells you there's nothing going on. Then it is just plain cold. Make sure you bundle up. But unfortunately, it's gonna get worse later this week. So I don't enjoy it while you can. Maybe let's talk a little bit more about the snow. We take a look at future radar and clouds. It's lake effect snow that continues throughout the rest of tonight into the overnight. And tomorrow we start to see things scaled back a little bit, especially through tomorrow. It's lake effect. Snow showers until that clipper moves in. Take a look. Great Lakes. See it first. It starts to really strengthen as it moves north and east. And you can see a line of precipitation developing along this front here. Now, not everybody's cold enough to get snow. We could see maybe a little bit of ice wintery mix or even just rain. But the timing here is the key. 6 30 p.m. On your Wednesday. Yeah, that's evening commute hours. You could face some slowdowns in the Ohio Valley there. So keep that in mind. Then we switch over to lake effect snow again as the system clears the coast. But another little clipper Wednesday that mixes in there. But for the northeast especially, it's mostly that lake effect that we're focused on. Here's what to expect there. 1 to 3 in many areas or even coding to an inch if you're not on the map. But maybe you notice snow over your city on future radar. Heaviest snow bands could produce up to 18 inches of snow is our accumulator local storm max.
