Widespread freeze warnings and watches have been issued across the Southeast United States as millions experience the coldest air of the season. Temperatures have dropped below freezing in cities such as Little Rock and Nashville, with Atlanta starting at 36°F and expected to fall into the lower 30s by the afternoon.

Record cold highs are forecast for several locations, including Birmingham, Alabama, where today's high is expected to be five degrees colder than the previous record set in 1950. The cold air is forecast to move deeper into the Southeast, with morning lows in the 20s and 30s, reaching as far south as Tampa.

You are not going to be in the upper 30s, but perhaps the lower 30s as we head into the afternoon. So we are topping out right now. Look at Cincinnati, high today of 32. Our average low is 37. So our average low is five degrees warmer than what the high is going to be. Makes your head spin, but essentially it just means it's really, really cold out there. Our forecast for record cold highs, another one you always have to think about, 1950 in Birmingham, Alabama, the high for the day was 46. Our high today will only get to 41. So this is five degrees colder than the record. So it'd be a new record cold high. And that's the case as we go down the list here, we're going to break and or tie some of those records. Some of them going back to, you see that to 1892. Now tomorrow morning, as I mentioned, that's when that chilly air gets into the Southeast, much deeper. Tomorrow morning, much colder in the South as well. Jordan, a lot of 30s to start off the day. Tomorrow is going to be the 20s and look at 38 all the way down into Tampa.
