It looks like a picture of rural peace and tranquility, but this is a community shattered by war. A Tuzar is a recent arrival with her son Mo. They fled when the military attacked their village late last year. We were afraid to keep living in our former place. There were bombings and airstrikes. They even shot people, so we were scared and fled. It's been two months since we arrived here. For her and the community of 150 people who live here, the election is meaningless. No, I'm not voting because I live here, I can't vote. It's a close-knit community and they rely on each other. They survive on what they grow or catch. But today a special visitor, a famous movie star has arrived from the days before the military coup. And she's not just bringing moral support, there's a treat for the kids. This is a chance for these kids to have a really substantial meal. In this case, big lumps of chicken curry. And this has been donated by the local community. Nothing is getting in from the outside to these displaced people. There are 3.5 million people around Myanmar who have been moved out of their homes by the war and are not getting any international aid at all. Mya lived a life of fame and fortune before the coup. But unlike many celebrities in Myanmar who've chosen to live under military rule and endorse the election, she chose to be displaced. Now she lives in secret, moving around the country offering support to those who had no choice and hoping for a better future. Before the coup, our country was developing and everyone could see its potential. Now everything is upside down. That's why I've been doing what I can to oppose the military. As for our country's future, I want it to be like our nearest neighbor, Thailand. But that is a distant dream. The farmers here just want to work their fields and live in peace.
