With just over two months to go until the start of the Winter Olympics in Italy, 3,000 years of the Games history is on display in Milan. Old and new have been woven together from ancient statues to the golden running spikes Michael Johnson wore in the 1996 Olympics. In fact, modern sport takes a lot of things that were already there, different things, the values of friendship, of helping each other, of being a team for the team sports and things like that, but also the more economical dimension, the political dimension we mentioned, but also for emperors to organise Games or for governors of Roman provinces, it was really important to legitimise their power, that they were able to offer this and give this to the people. Although some of the pairings might seem unusual, the idea is to show how sport and its values have been passed down through time. The modern Games in 1900 did, however, mark a major turning point. So for me, it's a really good match. The exhibition at the Fondazione Ruovattie in Milan runs to the 22nd of March.
