Micron has broken ground on a large semiconductor manufacturing facility in Clay, near Syracuse, New York. The new fab, part of a broader $200 billion investment in U.S. memory manufacturing, will feature 600,000 square feet of clean room space and is designed to meet the rising demand for high-performance memory chips, especially for AI applications.

Micron remains the only U.S.-based memory manufacturer and continues to expand its global manufacturing footprint, including ongoing projects in Boise, Idaho. The company highlighted its leadership in DRAM and NAND technology, and announced that its next-generation high bandwidth memory, HBM4, will begin production this year to support AI accelerators.

Sanjay, tell us what you're doing there, tell us what it means, and tell us what you see happening in the most important market, in the most important part of the data center. Good morning, Jim, and happy to be back on your show. Today's an exciting day. Micron is breaking ground here in Clay, New York, near Syracuse, for our large manufacturing fab infrastructure. This will be, each of these fabs will be 600,000 square feet in clean room size, that is the size of 10 football fields. And Micron, last year, had announced, with Trump administration, investments in the U.S. for leading-edge memory manufacturing of $200 billion over the course of next several years. And this is part of those investments. Leading-edge memory is in high demand. AI-driven demand is accelerating, it is real, it is here, and we need more and more memory to address that demand. Today, memory is not just a system component, it is actually a strategic asset, because AI-driven systems need more memory, they need higher performance memory, in order to really do all the real-time contextual processing that AI systems require. And just keep in mind, this is not just in data centers, it is from data center, to the edge devices, to smartphones, to PCs, to automobiles, and so memory growth is at the heart of everything driven by AI. And Micron is working hard. Today is a proof point that we are working hard to bring additional supply, and very excited about the historic milestone here in New York State. All right, now you have kept us, our country, I'd say in the game, so to speak, because you build here. Will we be able to be the leader? I know that you are one of the top, but the leader in this, because I think a lot of people feel that we're not going to be able to keep up, or even, maybe we fall behind China, behind Korea, by Japan, where are we going to be as a nation when you're done this? Jim, Micron is the only memory manufacturer here in the US, and we have clear global leadership in technology, fourth successive generation of DRAM technology leadership, and third successive generation of NAND technology leadership. So when it comes to technology, when it comes to manufacturing excellence, and deploying that technology and manufacturing capability into products that are really enabling, key enabler of AI today, Micron is absolutely leading on a global basis, and we are, of course, adding to our manufacturing footprint worldwide, with $200 billion of investments here in the US to increase our supply over the coming years. Today we are announcing New York, we already have our first manufacturing fab in construction in Boise, Idaho, next to our R&D fab, that will start bringing up production, first wafers out by middle of 2027 timeframe. Second fab in Boise, Idaho, is already in the design phases, and that will follow about a year later in 28 timeframe, and then will come the New York fab. So Micron is making the investments, supported by our best competitive position ever in our global technology leadership and product positioning. Let me just give you one example, if you allow me some time here. Our high bandwidth memory, HBM4, this is the next generation that will start going into production this year. This is the highest performance, high bandwidth memory in the industry today. This is critical for AI accelerators today.
