Meta is bringing in a pair of key artificial intelligence experts who worked at Apple Inc., hiring Mark Lee and Tom Gunter for its Superintelligence Labs team, shortly after poaching their former boss from the iPhone maker.

This recruitment comes shortly after Meta also hired their previous supervisor from Apple, reflecting the company's ongoing efforts to assemble a highly skilled AI team.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated his commitment to building an elite AI research group, offering substantial compensation packages to attract top talent. The departures from Apple occur amid internal debates at the company regarding the future direction of its AI strategy, particularly around the development of Siri.

Yeah look it's almost the daily occurrence isn't it. And it's a reminder of just how determined how ambitious ugly arguably how aggressive Mark Zuckerberg is being in putting together this super intelligence team. He poached their boss and now he's poached them. We're talking about Mark Lee and Tom Gunter former for both formerly of Apple. And again previously we reported that their boss had been poached by Mark Zuckerberg again for their super intelligence labs business. Zuck Mark Zuckerberg saying and putting out a post. And he said I am focused and we are focused on building the most elite and talent dense team in the industry. And he continues to hire aggressively with massive pay packages. We know that Apple has offered some of their research is higher pay and higher comp but nothing that matches the kind of dollar numbers that Mark Zuckerberg and Meta are putting towards them. Upwards of 200 million dollars for the boss of these two individuals who were hired. So the money is incredible. And he's spending very heavily on data centers as well saying they will spend tens of billions of dollars on building out data centers to support their growth around A.I. But it's also a reminder of the tumult essentially and the lack of direction within Apple as they lose this talent. They're still trying to decide where they go for an in-house model to power Siri which is expected to be updated in 2026 or whether they take an off the shelf option for example from Anthropic or open A.I. to power Siri in 2026. That debate continues. And so that lack of certainty in terms of the path forward for Apple is leaving an opening for Mark Zuckerberg to poach.
