Two men walking out of a Minneapolis Catholic church were attacked and robbed by a group of as many as eight men, police say.

Police in Minneapolis are investigating an attack and robbery involving two men in the parking lot of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. According to authorities, the men were leaving the church when a group of seven to eight males exited two gray cars and approached them. One victim was pushed to the ground and robbed, while the other was injured while trying to avoid an object being thrown at him. 

Both victims, members of the church maintenance team, are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled the scene in vehicles, and no arrests have been made. Church leaders and parishioners expressed shock and concern following the incident, which occurred during a busy period as people were attending mass.

We spoke with several parishioners who tell us they're shaken up, and the church administrator says he's still in shock over what happened on a busy Sunday morning for people in the ST john of our Catholic community in South Minneapolis. The busy Sunday morning began like any other. We've got traffic leaving a mass and traffic coming in for the next mass. But just after eight o'clock ST Joan of Arc Administrator Dennis Haney says he turned into the church parking lot to find a crime scene. They just came in the driveway right after it happened and we saw our guy are one guy getting bandaged up. Minneapolis Police say third precinct officers responded to reports of a robbery at Third Avenue South near East 45th Street. Investigators say preliminary information indicates the two men were leaving the church building when 7 to eight males exited to gray cars and approach them. Police say one of the victims was pushed to the ground and robbed and say the second victim was hurt while trying to avoid an object being thrown at him. We're shocked. We're hurt for our two people who were injured. We can't believe that this happened during mass time. Church leaders say both victims are on the maintenance team and they are recovering from non life threatening injuries.
