London police have arrested more than 425 protesters during violent clashes at a rally calling on the United Kingdom’s government to lift a ban on the Palestine Action group. About 1,500 people participated in the demonstration, risking arrest under terrorism laws.

Demonstrators, including members of other Palestinian solidarity groups, are demanding that the government overturn the ban on Palestine Action and take stronger measures against Israel over its actions in Gaza. Many participants expressed frustration at what they view as excessive state repression and called for greater accountability from the UK government.

It's sad that the government is wasting the police time doing this sort of stuff, but it's the way it is. And I'm here to try and fight this repression as well as the proscription of Palestine action. The demonstration is about more than anger regarding the group's ban. Supporters of Palestine action, as well as other Palestinian solidarity groups, want the UK government to take stronger measures against Israel for its actions in Gaza. Ordinary people who have never been on protest in their lives are reckoning with their conscience, they're thinking I cannot keep sitting day in, day out on my sofa watching this abject horror and do nothing. 23 months on from Israel's war on Gaza, these protesters want their government to listen and act on their calls for an end to the genocide.
