Police in Gunnedah, New South Wales, shot and killed a man after he allegedly threatened officers with a bow and arrow during a welfare check. Officers responded to a call concerning the welfare of an occupant at a home on Queer Road and encountered the man, who then reportedly aimed the weapon at them, prompting police to take cover and fire.

Paramedics attended the scene but were unable to save the man. A critical incident investigation has been launched, with oversight from the Professional Standards Command. The man has not yet been formally identified.

Earth's police were called to the home in Gunnedah around 1.40 this afternoon over concerns for an occupant. They say when they arrived, they spoke to a man outside the house on Queer Road before he then went back inside and returned with a bow and arrow, allegedly aiming at police. This forced the officers to take cover using their car for safety before one of the officers fired their gun at the man. Now paramedics were called and he was treated at the scene but was unable to be saved. A critical incident has been declared and investigations into exactly how this unfolded will be reviewed, including by the Professional Standards Command.
