The court heard that Khan, who has had his licence suspended three times, allegedly lost control of his vehicle, mounted a concrete median strip, and collided head-on with the motorbike rider, causing significant injuries.

Khan's bail was granted under strict conditions, including a curfew, a security payment, surrendering his passport, and restrictions on driving or changing address. The prosecution opposed bail, and police indicated that further charges could be laid. The matter is scheduled to return to court in two weeks.

I saw the man lying down there flat like he's dead. His motorbike sent flying into a nearby shopfront, the delivery bag catapulting 10 metres onto the roof. Tenants upstairs and witnesses shocked. When I heard the sound, boom, it shook the building hard. I saw on the floor was, like, some Japanese food. And then as I come in, I saw his broken number plate on the ground. A swarm of bystanders rushing to his aid, he's now intubated and ventilated at Liverpool Hospital in a critical but stable condition. If he survives, it's just by the grace of God. Hope he pulls through and hope the drivers who hit the motorbike driver get through it OK as well. The defence argued Owais was making a right-hand turn when the vehicle lost control and there's no evidence to suggest his actions in the lead-up to the collision were dangerous. The prosecution opposed bail, but it was granted, though dependent on five conditions, those being an 8pm curfew, $5,000 security payment, surrendering his passport, not changing his residential address or entering the driver's seat of any motor vehicle.
