A Philadelphia man says he was on his way home from work when he was flagged down by someone who had just stumbled upon a dead body on the sidewalk.

Philadelphia police are investigating a fatal shooting after a man's body was discovered on a sidewalk in the Port Richmond area. The victim, believed to be 49 years old, was found with a gunshot wound to the head and several personal items scattered nearby. 

A local resident was flagged down by another man who nearly tripped over the body and requested help. Police responded to reports of shots fired earlier in the night and are currently working to identify the victim, who was carrying multiple forms of identification under different names. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.

Yeah, Karen, a man is dead this morning after police say he was shot in the head here in Port Richmond on Salmon Street between Monmouth and Cambria. Uh, Philadelphia police are looking at this hour for the shooter a dozen or more evidence flags out on the sidewalk that may paint a picture as to why there's a body in the street or was one in the street this morning. Eight shots fired, according to police. The other flags down there counter for things like keys or a cell phone all dropped by the victim. Ryan Lee was coming home from work when a man who had almost tripped over the body flagged him down. Here's what he told us. It was approached by a man on a bike while at the stop sign. He asked me to stop, you know, said he needs some help. Didn't know what it was. Little suspect at that time of night continued to tell me needed me to call 911. He almost had ran over a man. It was bleeding from the head on the sidewalk of Salmon. He rides back on his bike. I pulled down the street, keep safe distance because I didn't know what I was getting into and, uh, confirmed there was a body there. And I called 911 and stuck around. Talk to detectives. It's a lot to process. It's unfortunate the loss of life and anyone you have no question about it. He added that there were reports of shots fired. Karen, as early as half past midnight, he's got ring doorbell video that he provided to us. A Philadelphia police looking up and down the street at that point, searching for any signs of wrongdoing. But that search happened about a block north of where the body was found closer to where the calls came in of shots fired. So it was a short while later that police did find the body down here on on Salmon Street. And as you come back to our live shot, you can see police did their best attempt in a rush to victims of the hospital before realizing that he was expired. Police do say that the man was 49 years old, but they add that because he was carrying several different forms of I. D.
