Lake-effect snow has prompted winter storm warnings and advisories across the Great Lakes region, affecting areas including northern Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York. Some locations, such as Valparaiso, have reported above-average snowfall, with totals reaching up to 9.5 inches.

Heavier accumulations of 5 to 8 inches or more have been observed in Pennsylvania and New York, while the Upper Peninsula of Michigan has seen double-digit snowfall, which is typical for the area. Northerly winds continue to bring in cold air, contributing to ongoing snow in the region.

and you see winter storm warnings and also winter weather advisories. All of that translates to Lake effect snow as we call it less. So notice that will still see a little bit accumulating here into northern portions of Indiana. Also into Michigan. Heavier accumulations though as we look into Pennsylvania, also into New York where we could see a solid 5 to 8 plus inches of snow for us. Over the past two days we did have some good totals here coming off of Lake Michigan and we've seen a lot of snow in Lake Michigan. And as Kelly was mentioning, some of us have gotten a lot. Now we're seeing a lot of 7-8 Valparaiso getting 9.5 inches that is solid. That's above average. And then of course here into the UP of Michigan is where we picked up some of those double digit snowfalls, which is pretty typical. So we want to talk about our whole big system and look at the winds. We have got that northerly wind just charging southbound here. That is bringing in the cold air and that is also helping with that lake effect snow.
