What those leaflets say that have been dropped from Israeli planes in the area today is detailing these evacuation orders. Now, remember, this is Gaza City. It is an area with some one million people. And it's where the Israeli military says Hamas is operating. We know there are parts of this northern city that are already considered these so-called red zones where evacuation orders have been issued ahead of expected heavy fighting. But we also know that many Palestinians living there today have already been displaced multiple times throughout this war. They've been south, then they've returned. And now many are saying that they will refuse to move again because they're saying they don't have the money. Nowhere is safe. It's also the city where, last month, a U.N.-backed body, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification — they're the people who identify famine and hunger levels around the world — well, they raised the food insecurity status to phase five, the highest and most severe, saying people in the area are facing catastrophic conditions characterized by starvation, destitution and death. The timing of this, Anna, is crucial because we know the United Nations General Assembly is meeting later this month. Where do things stand when it comes to major countries, including Canada, recognizing a Palestinian state? Well, that meeting is due on September 22nd. We know there's this potential U.N.-endorsed reconstruction plan for Gaza that would include the disarmament of Hamas. It is something that's being reportedly discussed with the U.S. largely to prevent the U.N. General Assembly descending into a bitter row about the symbolic recognition of Palestine as a state.
