The incident marked the deadliest period since the U.S.-brokered truce began, with both sides accusing each other of violating the agreement.

U.S. President Donald Trump defended Israel's actions, stating that the response was justified and emphasizing the importance of Hamas adhering to the ceasefire terms. Tensions remain high as Israel claims repeated violations by Hamas, while Hamas denies involvement in the soldier's death and accuses Israel of its own breaches. The slow return of hostage bodies continues to complicate the implementation of the ceasefire's next phases.

A seemingly fraying ceasefire so far being held together. The truce in Gaza faced its most serious challenge overnight, after Israel claimed Hamas shot and killed one of its soldiers, then launched strikes on dozens of Hamas targets. It was the deadliest night in Gaza since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire went into effect earlier this month. Still, Israel says it remains committed to the accord. Israel will not stand by while being attacked. Israel will continue to uphold the ceasefire agreement and will respond firmly to any violation of this agreement. U.S. President Donald Trump, who was key to making the deal happen, defended Israel's strikes as justified and said Hamas must adhere to the terms or they will be terminated. They killed an Israeli soldier so the Israelis hit back and they should hit back. Is that jeopardizing the ceasefire? No, no. Nothing's going to jeopardize it. That's, you have to understand, Hamas is a very small part of peace in the Middle East and they have to behave. While the American president projects confidence, Israel and Hamas continue to accuse each other of breaching the truce. Israel claims Hamas has violated the terms hundreds of times, is withholding the bodies of hostages and staged the discovery of hostage remains. Hamas dug a hole in the ground yesterday, placed the partial remains of Ofir inside of it, covered it back up with dirt and handed it over to the Red Cross. The IDF caught the entire sequence of events on a military drone. Hamas says it is struggling to locate the bodies of hostages in Gaza's vast destruction and denies any involvement in the Israeli soldier's death. In turn, Hamas accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire deal. The bodies of 13 hostages remain in Gaza and their slow return is complicating efforts to proceed to the ceasefire's next phases.
