Apps like CoStar have attracted tens of millions of users, reflecting a growing curiosity about astrology as a means of self-discovery and coping with modern stress. 

Despite its popularity, astrology remains controversial, with scientists emphasizing its lack of scientific foundation. Surveys indicate that about 30 percent of Americans consult horoscopes or similar mystical services at least once a year, using astrology as a tool for personal insight and guidance.

Inside the world of astrology

Hold, hold, hold, we are standing down for a violation of weather rules. Clouds moved in at the Kennedy Space Center, and the launch of the SpaceX Crew 11 to the International Space Station was put off until tomorrow. The crew? Two Americans, a Japanese, and a Russian. One Scorpio, one Pisces, an Aquarius, and a Cancer. Their signs have nothing to do with the mission. But the growing popularity of astrology is the subject of tonight's Eye on America, reported by Mark Strassman. So you were born with Sagittarius rising. Something in the stars, some divine imperative, led us to Danielle Paulgar. You have your moon in Aquarius's opposite sign. This astrological counselor in Santa Fe gave me my first natal reading, a cosmic clocking of my life's patterns and cycles. There's a collective curiosity about astrology, and I think what it can really facilitate is helping people feel like they're part of something bigger than themselves. It's our first tool to understand our relationship with whatever this place is, right? You're still on Aquarius, even if you're like, I don't buy into that. But for some people, the imponderable mystery in the stars is astrology itself. You look at the same sky as astrologers, but you see something very different. Yes, in multiple ways. Astrophysicist Montana Williams stargazes from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in New Mexico. So radio antennas like this can receive radio waves from the edge of the universe? Basically, yes. Williams tracks the origins of the universe. But all she knows about astrology is that she was born a Leo. Is astrology to you a pseudoscience, a poetic science? I don't know what astrology is, to be honest. I will say that I am a bit biased, that I don't entirely believe in it. Astrology is not science like this, not even close. But there's quite a market for mystical services. Roughly 30 percent of Americans say at least once a year, they consult horoscopes, tarot cards or fortune tellers. Especially with Jupiter going through your ninth house. And we met one of them, Erika McAuliffe. Paul Gerst's chart readings gave her life insight that feels heaven sent. And what do you use astrology for? I use it as a tool for self-discovery. I think it shows a part of yourself that maybe you're not necessarily thinking about. It's cosmic guidance for everyday anxiety, like a map or sheet music. Clarity, confidence, courage, I think those are the three things that people are seeking. You have your moon in Aquarius's opposite sign. Fair enough. Life's complicated. And this Aquarius has a date with a Jupiter return to think about.
