U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested over 3,000 individuals in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area since the launch of Operation Metro Surge last month. The operation has sparked protests, including a church service disruption, and led to a federal judge ordering ICE to stop using non-lethal munitions against peaceful demonstrators and observers.

Department of Homeland Security officials maintain that chemical agents are only used in response to violence, despite criticism from activists and those affected. The Pentagon has placed 1,500 active-duty soldiers on standby in case the Insurrection Act is invoked, as cold temperatures are forecasted for the region.

ICE agents broke down the door to this house and took away a man in St. Paul over the weekend, but his family wrote on GoFundMe he was returned an hour later because he's a U.S. citizen with no criminal record. DHS says it's made more than 3,000 arrests in the Twin Cities since Operation Metro Surge began last month. Justice Department officials are vowing to press charges against a group of protesters who disrupted a church service on Sunday. The demonstrators allege one of the pastors leads the local ICE field office. A federal judge has ordered ICE agents to stop using tear gas, pepper spray, and other non- lethal munitions against peaceful protesters and people recording ISIS movements. A little ridiculous. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem told Face the Nation the orders don't change anything. We only use those chemical agents when there's violence happening and perpetuating and you need to be able to establish law in order to keep people safe. Patty O'Keefe was recently pepper sprayed and detained while following ICE. These ICE agents are dangerous. They are prone to violence. They are under-trained and they're angry. CBS News has learned the Pentagon has 1,500 active-duty soldiers on standby if President Trump invokes the Insurrection Act. The troops are from the 11th Airborne Division at Fort Wainwright, Alaska and are highly trained for battle in cold weather extremes.
