Authorities report that the gunman fired over 500 rounds, with nearly 200 hitting CDC buildings, but Rose was the only person struck. Financial support for Rose's family has surpassed half a million dollars, and the CDC is conducting a comprehensive security review in response to the incident.

To him there was no such thing as off the clock when it came to being a husband and father. His family wasn't just a priority, they were his purpose. Rose, a former Marine veteran, was gunned down two weeks ago while responding to a shooting outside CDC headquarters. The 33-year-old had only been on the force a few months. This was such a brazen attack on their security and their ability to continue to commit to the American people their great work. According to an email that was sent to staff members, a man believed by authorities to be the shooter tried to enter the campus just two days before the shooting but was turned away by security. David Rose was the only person struck by a bullet. To wear the uniform is to accept risk few can only understand. Officer Rose gave everything in the line of duty and for that we are forever grateful. Financial support for Officer Rose's family continues to pour in. More than half a million dollars has already been donated so far. Here at CDC headquarters, the agency is undergoing an overall security assessment.
