I'm Blake Phillips in Tampa. Hundreds of people getting together at the Jewish Community Center on Howard Ave with one goal in mind. Fighting Parkinson's the first thing that I recognized was my right arm wasn't swinging when I was walking. Judy Flasser sign was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in February of 2025. It hasn't started being too bad yet. My right side is the one that it's affected, mainly my right arm, so it shakes a lot almost a year later. She tells me she's doing OK, but now she's leaning more than ever on those around her. There was a specific point Sunday that this battle isn't something people like Judy have to do alone. A principle of improving the quality of life and what better way to do it and to have really clear results and reaching out to people whose lives are affected by Parkinson's. The Jewish Community Center and the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research are making this event a yearly staple, making information and resources easy to find. This is very important. Our medications do pretty good job early on, but over the long term people run into a lot of difficulty, so it's one of our research missions to figure out how do we slow the disease and make it better over the long term. Doctor Robert Hauser is local leading the charge right here in Tampa at the University of South Florida. But he tells me the bigger picture is collaboration with people like Judy and sharing their research. As Americans age, more and more of them are developing Parkinson's disease, but Parkinson's is not a natural consequence of aging. It's an unnatural consequence of aging, so we're here today to communicate to people that Parkinson's is preventable. At the end of the day, Doctor Hauser and Doctor Dorsey both believe Parkinson's is beatable, but it has to be together in Tampa on Blake Phillips, Tampa Bay.
