President Trump is set to unveil a long-awaited farm aid program on Monday afternoon, according to reports. CBS News' Willie James Inman has the latest from the White House.

President Trump is preparing to announce a $12 billion aid package aimed at supporting U.S. farmers who have faced difficulties selling crops and rising costs due to tariffs on China. The aid will be distributed through a newly designed program and is expected to reach farmers over the next several weeks and months.

The initiative comes as the administration responds to concerns about affordability and the impact of the U.S.-China tariff dispute, particularly on soybean sales. While China has agreed to purchase 12 million tons of soybeans by the end of February, these levels remain below previous years. The president is also expected to address broader affordability issues in upcoming public appearances.

Meanwhile, a White House official tells Bloomberg that President Trump is planning a $12 billion aid package for U.S. farmers who have struggled to sell their crops while suffering cost increases caused by tariffs on China. That announcement is scheduled for today. So the aid is the administration's latest effort to answer voter angst about rising costs even as the president has dismissed concerns about affordability as a hoax by Democrats. So let's go live to the White House. In CBS News, Willie James Inman. Willie, how will farmers get this aid? Hey there, Reid. Well, this is under a newly designed program, and it could reportedly go out to farmers, of course, in the weeks and months to come, in large part in response to the prices of those crops, but also the effect that tariffs have had on crops as well. Remember that tariff war between the U.S. and China, effectively stalling those purchases from China, in large part soybean purchases. Now the U.S. government is saying essentially that the Chinese are holding up to their part of the bargain and purchasing more soybeans in particular. They have agreed to purchase millions of tons, I should say, 12 million of tons by the end of February. So that will likely see some of those farmers be helped because of those purchases from the Chinese. But look, this is certainly a way that the administration is seeking to help those farmers and those communities that are hard hit by either the lack of purchases from foreign countries or elsewhere, or those low yield prices. Of course, the president wants to tackle that affordability issue. He's in fact getting on the road, traveling to Pennsylvania tomorrow to talk about energy prices in particular. So we will see the president come out and talk more about the affordability crisis that Americans say in public polling that he hasn't addressed head on. On top of that, you have inflation as well. But in this announcement that the president is reportedly set to make later today, he will focus on helping those farmers. He has promised time and time again in public statements to help U.S. farmers who have been hard hit amid this ongoing tariff battle, although there seems to be some good news coming down the road in terms of the Chinese in particular purchasing more goods from the U.S. But I will note that it certainly is significantly less than what has been purchased in years past, Reid.
