How to drive safely in snowy winter weather

So my name is Jacob Hammoud. I am the operational manager at iDrive Driving School in Windsor and Amherstburg. Days like today, weather conditions like today, there's three golden rules that you must go by. The first is following distance, always maintaining the following distance between you and the guy in front of you. You do not want to be following too close. In other words, you do not want to be trailing or driving in somebody's shadow. Now, typically, your following distance at 50 kilometers would be two seconds. And roads like today, you might add a couple seconds more, so you'd have to be at least four seconds away. The second is reducing your speed. Now, you may not always have the opportunity to keep the distance between you and the guy in front of you. So you would need to slow down to maintain the appropriate following distance. Deflate the tires is another tip that would help a lot. Most tire companies, they recommend that you under deflate the tires anywhere between two to four PSI per tire. And that's simply because the less air you have in it, the less of a perfect circle it is. So more of the tires is touching the ground, more service, more traction this way. Winter changes moods, changes our daily routines. And it should be the same for driving. It should change our habits. Because at the end of the day, driving is all about habits. Many people do not change this, do not see the need to change and adjust to the winter roads. So they drive the same way they would be driving on a nice, bright, sunny day.
