The project was initially estimated to cost 1.9 billion dollars. According to the Fed, the Department of Justice served the Federal Reserve with grand jury subpoenas Friday threatening a criminal indictment. Powell released a video saying the investigation is just the latest way for the administration to exert control over the Fed and its decisions on interest rates. The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public rather than following the preferences of the president. This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation. President Trump appointed Powell during his first term as president. Powell's current term expires in May and he says he will finish the term. Well, rideshare drivers in San Francisco are renewing calls for regulators to pull robo-taxis off public streets until safety concerns are addressed. Members with the California Gig Workers Union protested outside the California Public Utilities Commission citing last month's blackout when Waymo vehicles struggled to operate. The incident has reignited questions about how autonomous cars handle emergencies. During the blackout, Waymo, specifically driverless cars, were unable to function. They blocked intersections. Emergency vehicles couldn't get through. It created more congestion than was already happening. The agency regulates autonomous vehicles say it's quote refining and expanding policies around robo-taxis as the industry grows. Hockey is seeing a boost in popularity right now from an unexpected source. The show Heated Rivalry has become a breakout hit on HBO. It follows two fictional pro hockey stars who go from rookie rivals to romantic partners. The show has become popular, especially among young women, which has helped create growing interest in hockey from many who are outside the sport's traditional demographic. I didn't believe that people were actually buying tickets to go to NHL games because of the show until I talked to over a dozen of them in a 24-hour period and it really is happening. As someone who's covered hockey for 15 plus years where there's a lot of toxic masculinity, sexuality is not discussed at all, there's nothing really that is as open and as authentic as what we've kind of seen with Heated Rivalry. Some NHL teams have started to make references to the show in social media posts. One star of the show says he's had athletes who've not made their sexuality public message him privately to talk about the show and its message of support for same-sex relationships.
