Let's welcome in former NATO Supreme Allied Commander General Wesley Clark. General Clark, always great to have you on the show. So Maduro is saying that his country is ready to take action if necessary, but Pete Hexath is saying that a U.S. presence in the Caribbean isn't going away. So I'd like to get your thoughts on that. I'm glad to see us strengthening our position in the U.S. Southern Command region. I was the commander of U.S. Southern Command when I was in uniform, so I visited Venezuela before it became a dictatorship. There were some great people in Venezuela, but it is a real problem for us and for others in the hemisphere right now. I do think that the presence of those naval ships sends a very strong message, but it's only one part of trying to crack down. The truth is, we've looked at this for decades. If you really want to stop drugs coming into the United States, you have to stop the demand for drugs in the United States. So just as there's an offensive part, there's also a defensive part of this. And General Clark, I want to switch gears here now. The president is calling on European leaders to stop funding Russian President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine, accusing them of failing to pressure China. President Trump has reiterated that his desire to broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia. So based on your understanding of his foreign policy, what do you think a potential peace initiative may look like moving on from here? I think the president is trying to persuade Vladimir Putin to see the big picture, that it's better to be part of the world community than to continue to fight and struggle to get a piece of Ukraine, and that he better be better off if he just stopped the fighting right now. But unfortunately, Putin doesn't see it that way. And the recent summit in Beijing with Putin, Xi, the North Korean leader, and other nations there seem to indicate that they're lining up against the United States view. So I sympathize with the president's desire for peace. I hope he gets it. But experience shows that if you really want it, you have to increase the pressure on Vladimir Putin. His economy is in trouble, at least by Western standards. He can squeeze a little more out of it. His military is in trouble. Ukrainians are doing a brilliant job with limited resources. So I think if the Europeans would stop funding by buying the oil, if the United States would provide more resources, military resources and economic resources, along with the Europeans to Ukraine, I think this can be stopped. And you mentioned the pressure. The president is also calling for increased economic pressure on China for its support of Russia. Let's talk more about that. What do you think that will look like? Will it be tariffs, financial sanctions? What do you think? I think it's a very tough problem because we are so intertwined with China. For example, our iPhones, Apple, Big Tech, NVIDIA. There are so many things we have economically with China. We're so intertwined, interconnected, that it's very difficult to put these pressures on. And China's just signed a new deal with Russia for more energy from Russia. So paradoxically, this pressure on China may result in a greater Russia-China relationship, and at the same time, pressure back on the United States in terms of rare earth minerals and other resources that China does control. There's always looming here the threat of a Chinese move on Taiwan. People are saying it's lining up for 2027. Our militaries warned about that. The parade that was held certainly suggests that there's a military buildup. We know they're outbuilding the United States in ships and aircraft and missiles. So I think we've got to figure out the relationship with China. I've always felt that the world is big enough for the United States and China if we can hold on to Europe and strengthen Europe in its relations with the United States. But this is a view that's fallen out of favor with many in both the Republican and Democratic parties. They've wanted to pivot to oppose China and Asia, and then find out that we're so interconnected. It's very difficult to do much about China in Asia. General Clark, always great to get your insights.
