In Gaza City, dozens of Palestinian families are now residing in a landfill site, having been displaced by recent Israeli attacks that disrupted the ceasefire in the region. These families, lacking any other refuge, have attempted to clean and inhabit the landfill as their temporary home. However, living conditions remain dire, with many children suffering from illnesses such as diarrhea and malnutrition. The absence of adequate aid further exacerbates their plight, as only the tents outside the landfill area receive assistance.

Residents at the site describe their living conditions as intolerable and hazardous to health. The lack of sanitation and the need to burn plastic for fuel have forced them to live in unsanitary conditions, alongside rats and other pests. The health issues are severe, including cases of scabies, diarrhea, and dehydration among both adults and children. The situation is described as a living hell, with families managing to eat just once a day.

The United Nations reports that at least 400,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced due to Israeli military actions within the past month. Despite reassurances from Israel's defense minister of an expanded offensive through most of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian families continue to struggle for safety in increasingly unsanitary and dangerous environments.

We found no shelter except this landfill site so we cleaned it up and have been staying in it. We had no other place to go. Our children are suffering from diarrhea and malnutrition. There is no aid. Only the tents outside this area are receiving assistance. But we are completely overlooked. Those living here say they are trying to preserve their dignity. That's increasingly difficult when this is the daily reality. People are living beside rats. Most of the children are sick. There is no sanitation and the only fuel source is to burn plastic. This is not a place fit for human life, not even animals or anyone at all. It is not even safe for children. We have sick people and children suffering from scabies, diarrhea and dehydration. And it's all because of the filth and the garbage that surrounds us. What can I say to express my feelings? Our lives have become a living hell. Flies, insects and at times even snakes and ants fall into our food. It is impossible to live or continue living like this. We and our children eat only once a day. This is our reality.
