The movement cropped up following the collapse of the Novi Sad train station canopy in November, killing 16 people. The infrastructure failure quickly became a symbol for the endemic corruption plaguing Serbia's government and protests spread throughout the Balkan nation. In the beginning, demonstrators demanded accountability for the incident. Now they are calling for new elections to end the eight-year reign of President Aleksandar Vucic. The head of state himself has said this state will win, and described protesters as enemies of their own country, claiming that they are part of a foreign plot to overthrow his government.
