Investigators are examining whether Dati engaged in illegal lobbying for the carmaker in the European Parliament.

Dati has denied all allegations, claiming her rights have been violated. Despite calls for her resignation, the French government has stated it will not dismiss her unless she is found guilty. The upcoming trial may impact Dati's prospects in the Paris mayoral race, where she is currently a leading candidate.
