French authorities have launched a major investigation following the theft of the crown jewels from the Louvre. Over 100 investigators are working on the case, and France's culture minister has faced Senate questioning regarding the incident. The minister acknowledged security failures and announced three additional public inquiries to ensure accountability. A Senate delegation visited the museum to assess the security weaknesses firsthand, noting that the current equipment was inadequate for such a prestigious institution. In response, the culture minister pledged to implement comprehensive security measures, including an 80 million euro investment in surveillance cameras as part of a new security initiative named the Renaissance work.

Ten days after the brazen theft of the crown jewels from the Louvre, more than 100 investigators are on the case. And on Tuesday, France's culture minister was questioned before the Senate about the heist. If this spectacular theft was able to happen, it was a failure. Security flaws certainly existed and therefore must be addressed. Rashida Dati announced three additional inquiries are being launched, that the results will be public and promised accountability. Tuesday morning, a delegation of senators visited the scene of the crime to see the alleged shortcomings themselves and help inform their conclusions. We all noticed that the security equipment was not suitable for a museum worthy of the 21st century in a place that is special for France. The Louvre is our flagship. It must be exemplary. Exemplary. One of the most prestigious museums in the world, quite obviously underprotected, according to this senator. Today, you walk into any shop, any grocery store, there are video cameras. We managed to arrest criminals. And today, the world's largest museum is completely vulnerable. There was no camera pointed at that window. Rashida Dati said she will take all necessary measures to protect the Louvre, promising 80 million euros just for cameras. The Louvre's security plan will be called the Renaissance work.
