Authorities suspect the group may have been acting as Russian agents aiming to destabilise France, with the operation allegedly coordinated from Bulgaria and involving payments and logistical support. The accused deny anti-Semitic motives and any connection to Russian intelligence, with one suspect claiming ignorance of the memorial's significance. If convicted, the four face up to seven years in prison.

They're suspected of being Russian agents sent to destabilise the country. Surveillance footage shows the incident taking place. Police were able to track one perpetrator to his Paris hotel, where his distinctive tattoos helped identify him. These are tattoos that we find regularly on neo-Nazis, because 88 refers to the eighth letter of the alphabet, meaning H. So 88 means Heil Hitler. The man's name is Mirko Angelov. The evening before the graffiti appeared, he posted this photo of himself in Paris. The next day, he was in Brussels, where he managed to escape police. And he's still on the run. He's thought to have recruited this man to act as an accomplice for 1,000 euros. He was arrested in 2024 in Bulgaria and denied any anti-Semitic intentions behind his actions, ahead of his extradition to a French prison. I don't deserve five years in prison because I painted a few walls when I was drunk. It was only on returning to Bulgaria that I realised what I was painting, and on which building. French police suspect Russia is behind the plot. It was all organised from Blagoevgrad, a small town in Bulgaria, home to the presumed head of the group, who paid for their hotel rooms and plane tickets. His wife says the accusations are false. This is the photo of our wedding at the church. Nikolai Imanov is a crypto-trader and a former member of a pro-Russia militia. He's accused of receiving orders in Russian via the messaging app Telegram. Imanov's wife denies that any mission was ordered, although she defends Russia. I want to remind you that there were 30 million Russian victims of Nazism, so Russians hate Nazis' guts. They would never do an operation like this. Do you think that a state can be destabilised because of graffiti in the street? Are you impressed by graffiti? I'm not. The four Bulgarians face up to seven years in prison.
