France 'doesn't rule out' requisitions for war production

On Tuesday, the French defence minister said he may requisition stocks, staff or facilities to hasten production of weapons needed by Kyiv and elsewhere. For the first time, I am not ruling out using what the law allows ministers to do, i.e. if things are not on track in terms of production rates and lead times, to make requisitions if necessary or to use the right of prioritisation. Le Corneau cited Aster missiles, which have been used in Ukraine's air defence, as a possible example for such a move. It comes after France, Germany and Poland pledged to boost production of military equipment and procure more weapons for Kyiv earlier this month. Meanwhile, US efforts to vote through a fresh military aid package for Ukraine, worth $60 billion, have so far failed. As the conflict enters its third year, Ukraine is outnumbered by Moscow's troops on the ground and is running out of ammunition to resist its Russian invaders. Kyiv's troops, who are growing increasingly exhausted, faced a setback when the eastern city of Ovdivka was taken by Russia last month.
