What was once a Popemobile has been transformed into a mobile health clinic for children in Gaza. A Christian charity said the vehicle, used by the late Pope Francis during a visit to Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank more than a decade ago, could now be used to treat around 200 children a day. It's a vehicle of hope, because we think that children worldwide, and especially the children in Gaza, need signs of hope, need confirmation that the world has not forgotten about them. The initiative was blessed by Francis before he died in April, and entrusted to the Catholic organization Caritas, which oversaw the project to convert the vehicle. Caritas, Sweden, Secretary General Peter Brun. They have the right to vaccination. They have the right to proper health care. And this must not be restricted in any way by anybody. We adults have a responsibility to see that the children everywhere can be treated, and that they deserve a message of hope. But it's unclear if or when the vehicle would enter Gaza, where a ceasefire still formally holds. The Israeli government agency responsible for coordinating the entry of aid into the enclave declined to comment when asked about the request. Pope Francis frequently spoke out about the war in Gaza. In January, he called the humanitarian situation there shameful. He was also known to speak by phone with Gaza's small Christian community every evening during the war.
