There will definitely be heavy rain and flash flooding in Florida and along the Gulf Coast this week, but will a new tropical storm form?

Meteorologists are monitoring a low-pressure system over Florida during hurricane season, which is currently causing severe thunderstorms and flash flooding across the region. Although the system is not well-organized and the likelihood of it developing into a tropical storm remains low, impacts such as heavy rainfall, lightning, and localized flooding have already been reported, including the collapse of a community center roof due to the weight of rain.

Forecasters note that the system is likely to move along the Gulf Coast, limiting its potential for further organization and strengthening. However, if the system takes a more southern route over the Gulf waters, it could potentially strengthen into a tropical depression. Residents are advised to stay updated on forecasts as heavy downpours and flash flooding are expected to continue along the Gulf Coast and into Texas.

Forecasters monitor chance for tropical development

now it's hurricane season. We're watching some possible tropical development, but let's break down why this process probably will not be tropical storm at Dexter this week. But this right here is what we're watching. I know it does not look like a very organized swirl, right? A very organized low pressure system because it's not at least not right now, but we do have the impacts already here. Take a look at the thunderstorms across florida. We do have another severe thunderstorm warning has been issued up into the panhandle there. We've had a few throughout the evening, already seeing a lot of lightning. You saw the lightning strike on the top right hand corner of your screen there. There it was again. Yeah, a lot of lightning there flooding flash flooding. That has been a concern as well. We'll take a quick look at some of the storm reports here. This one by far the biggest impact, weight of heavy rainfall leading to the roof of the community center collapsing. Yeah, we also have had some flooded roadways, but that by far is the biggest impact storm report. I would say now I mentioned it's a low chance of tropical development right now. That is because of a couple different reasons here. Let's break them down. This map probably pretty familiar. You've probably seen this before last week. Maybe when we had our tropical rainstorm, it's a similar setup, but there's two ways this could play out. We think this storm is going to move along the gulf coast. That means it doesn't have the opportunity to get too organized and to strengthen. However, is it completely out of the question for it to take the southern route and move through the gulf coast or through the waters of the gulf? No, it could do this, and this would potentially allow it to strengthen into a tropical depression. We still just do not think that this becomes tropical storm Dexter, but we're watching this very closely over the next couple of days. So if you live in this area, not a bad idea to check back for the latest forecast information as we get a little bit closer through the week. But the big headline here for you expect the heavy downpours. We're going to have flash flooding. We've already seen it in Florida. That's going to continue along the gulf coast, even into Texas. By the end of the weekend into the weekend, we see impacts there in Texas.
