A German Shepherd named Arnie was taken along with his owner's Toyota Hilux, which was parked outside a friend's house in Wynnum, Brisbane. The theft occurred early in the morning, and despite widespread social media attention and possible sightings, there have been no solid leads.

The family, who considers Arnie a vital member, is urging the thieves to return the dog, even if they keep the vehicle. Police are asking residents in surrounding suburbs to check dashcam footage from the relevant time period to assist in the search.

Dogs and newts go together like Vegemite on toast, and for German Shepherd Arnie, riding in the back of Nathan's Hilux is his bread and butter. He'd be in there for like three hours just before we load up. On Friday night, the Toyota was parked outside a friend's house in Wynnum on Brisbane's bayside, with Arnie tucked up in the back. But when Nathan set off for work around five in the morning, not only was his dual cab gone, but his best mate as well. Usually you'd hear Arnie barking, but he might have just thought it was me jumping into the ute and taking off, you know. Police are now on the hunt for the car thieves, and social media pages have shared the story thousands of times. Despite a few possible sightings, there's been no solid leads. I haven't been sleeping well over the last few nights. I've been out driving around Brisbane. I think I spot my ute, do a ute turn, turn back, see if it's mine. A mobile number for the McKeowns is on the side of the Hilux, which was up for sale. But the family is begging whoever pinched it, keep the ute, but let Arnie go. The seven-year-old was born two years before their daughter, and is considered their first baby. He's just a pillar of strength in the family. He's gotten us through a lot of hard times. Police are urging anyone in the suburbs surrounding Wynnum to check their dashcams between late Friday and early Saturday. Arnie is friendly and approachable, but likely starting to fret. He's never away from us. He comes everywhere with us. They're not giving up hope. They can soon tell their daughter, Arnie will be back. We just want him back safe and sound. Chris Canopy, 10 News.
