Sai Wei Hung, a former tenant in Melbourne, pleaded guilty to multiple charges including arson, criminal damage, and extortion after targeting her former landlord and housemates. In June 2024, she set fire to her ex-landlord's home while friends and family, including two children, were inside, and the night before, she set two cars and another house on fire in retaliation for her eviction.

Hung also sent a message demanding $30,000 and threatened further actions if not paid. She came to Australia on a working holiday visa and intended to study, but now awaits sentencing next year and faces possible deportation.

Retribution by fire. An angry ex-tenant targets her former landlord. In June 2024, she doused the front of his barrack home in petrol and set it alight. Two children were among the friends and family inside. In Mandarin, she yelled, go to hell. The landlord saying when he came face to face with her, in that moment, I firmly believe she intended to kill my entire family. One night earlier, the woman targeted a Clyde North home she'd been kicked out of. She set two cars on fire and the front of that house as well. It was all retaliation for an eviction three months earlier in March. When that happened, the woman drove a car at her housemates. She egged the garage and then rammed it in with her car. The woman behind it all, Sai Wei Hung, today pleading guilty to several crimes, including criminal damage and extortion. A message she sent at the time of the fire bombing says, you tell Lin, give me $30,000 before 8pm tonight and everything that happened between us will be gone. If I did not get the money today, I cannot ensure I wouldn't do something again. Ms Hung came here on a working holiday visa and wanted to study here. She'll be sentenced next year and then faces deportation. Rory Campbell, 10 News.
