Jones, along with over 30 others—including prominent basketball figures Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier—faces felony charges as part of a wide-ranging FBI investigation into illegal gambling with alleged mafia connections.

Jones is accused of providing sensitive game day information, including player injury status, to an organized gambling ring. All defendants have pleaded not guilty, and if convicted, could face prison time and substantial fines. The case follows a similar NBA gambling scandal in 2024 involving Jonte Porter.

Today, Damon Jones, an 11-year veteran, first as a player and then assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers, will be arraigned. He's charged in two indictments with a sports rigging operation and illegal poker games. He will be arraigned here in federal court in Brooklyn at two o'clock. He's expected to plead not guilty. Then they will discuss next steps. After that arraignment, he will be walked across the hall and he will go through a second arraignment. He's accused of giving game day details to an organized gambling ring and tipping off injury status and player availability, including his former teammate, LeBron James. This is the NBA's second significant gambling scandal in just the last two years. In 2024, Toronto Raptors' Jonte Porter was arrested and received a lifetime ban. This is a wide-ranging gambling investigation with alleged ties to the mafia. There are more than 30 defendants. All have pled not guilty, but they are facing felony charges. If convicted, they could face possible prison time and substantial fines. The next two high-profile names that we are going to be looking for, Portland's head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami guard Terry Rozier, they will both be arraigned on December 8th and November 24th.
