The Community Protection Board, which includes members from Border Force and Home Affairs, was established to oversee the management of ex-detainees after a pivotal High Court ruling necessitating their release. As criticisms mount, a spokesperson for Minister Giles emphasized the expectation that the board, acting under the minister's delegation, would prioritize community safety and align with government policy objectives. However, the minister is being urged to directly address the outcomes of these decisions.

Further intensifying scrutiny around the minister's office, another former detainee was recently granted bail in Melbourne after being charged with theft and assaulting police officers. A spokesperson for Mr Giles taking a swipe in a statement, the expectation is that they'll always be mindful of community views and the objectives of government policy. As the final decision maker, he also needs to take responsibility for what his delegate does. Adding to the political disaster, it's now been revealed another ex-detainee has been granted bail in Melbourne after facing court accused of stealing groceries and threatening police officers with a knife at a Footscray pub.
