Copious amounts of moisture will contribute to widespread rain and thunderstorms in the East over the next couple of days. Excessive rainfall could trigger flooding in spots, including in the Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. areas. A few storms might turn severe and produce damaging wind gusts.

East Coast of the United States

Meteorologists are forecasting widespread rain and thunderstorms across the eastern United States, driven by high humidity and an influx of moisture from both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The persistent weather pattern is expected to bring excessive rainfall, particularly to areas such as Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., increasing the risk of flash flooding.

Some storms may turn severe, with damaging wind gusts posing the greatest threat, along with heavy bursts of rain that could quickly impact roadways. Areas in Virginia and North Carolina, already affected by previous rainfall, are also at heightened risk for flash flooding. Residents and travelers are advised to stay alert, especially during peak travel hours and into the evening.

Eastern storms could produce severe weather, flooding

There's still a flood watch in effect for today. It's still very humid. We've got dew points that are up in the low 70s. The heat, the humidity is still on across this area and the weather pattern is not letting anything really change. We still have our subtropical high. That's a fixture here over the Atlantic. That's pumping in Atlantic moisture. The flow around the high over the Gulf is helping to direct Gulf moisture as well all towards this area, and this is going to lead to some potential again for some big rainfall, as well as the chance for some storms here. We've got a very unstable environment, and when thunderstorms do develop, they've got the risk again of bringing some strong winds as well. Some hail, but I think wind is probably the biggest threat with these thunderstorms. Along with the heavy rain, you know quick burst of heavy rain that could cause some quick issues on roadways. Be ready for this. Unfortunately, about the rush hour time frame is when it all moves in. Heading through the Northeast through this evening Raleigh, we've got another round of storms coming our way and we'll be watching this even through the overnight. This is not just the links to daytime heating kind of thing for us right here. Now there is a chance for the heavy rain in Virginia and into North Carolina. This is with an area hard hit by some of that leftover rain from Chantal. Earlier this week, so now we've got another chance of getting into some bigger rainfall rates that could drive some flash flooding concerns here. Stay aware for travelers, especially late night when some of that is really coming on through DC. The timing for us is rush hour, so you see storms come in. There's all the hazards that come with it with the damaging winds, the rain, the lightning and this stays with us through the evening. Here into the DC area, Jordan, the Raleigh area will go most of the day without thunderstorms, but tonight is when everything tracks. Yeah, they look.
