It was a crushing defeat for the Vancouver Whitecaps and their supporters as the team fell to Inter Miami in its first ever crack at an MLS championship. CBC's Jon Hernandez caught up with fans in the aftermath.

Inter-Miami secured a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Major League Soccer Cup final, held in Miami, Florida. Vancouver conceded an early own goal but managed to tie the match in the second half through Ali Ahmed, who became only the second Canadian-born player to score in an MLS Cup final.

Miami quickly regained the lead and added a late insurance goal, ending Vancouver's hopes for a championship. Despite the loss, fans and family members showed strong support for the Whitecaps, with many expressing pride in the team's achievements and optimism for the future of Canadian soccer.

Messi through for Allende, this can finish it for Miami. A tough blow for a team that had hoped for a happy ending to its storybook season. They obviously will cry, but I think what is important is that it is proud tears. Fans understandably crushed by the end result. Of the 2,000 supporters here, many were family of the players on the pitch, like the Alumis. My brother just joined in September, so for our family, it's like we got to join the dream as it was rumbling up. So, obviously, I am so sad. We travelled all the way here, we spent a lot of money, and we took a lot of time off work really quickly, but I don't regret it. Isaac Mohamed is the cousin of the Whitecaps' lone goal scorer, and says there's a lot to look forward to. Down, but a little up. Canada Soccer is on the rise, World Cup is coming to town, Vancouver and Toronto. Still, some fans are left wondering what could have been. But I will say something about the refs, they didn't call every single foul. When the game ended, a large portion of the Vancouver Southsiders stayed in the stands, a last show of solidarity for a team that suffered a momentous loss.
