The New York City Department of Transportation has announced the activation of additional red light cameras across the city. The expansion will see cameras installed at 50 new intersections each week for the next five weeks, increasing the total number of monitored intersections.

Previously, red light cameras were limited to 150 intersections, the maximum allowed under state law. With the new expansion, the DOT plans to have cameras at 600 intersections by the end of the year to improve safety for New Yorkers.

Prior to that expansion that's now underway, red light cameras were in place at just 150 intersections, which previously was the maximum allowed under state law. New York City D. O. T. Will complete the expansion to all 600 intersections by the end of the year.
