Legislators and developers argue that a stadium at 18th and Vine would revitalize the area, connect downtown with surrounding neighborhoods, and honor Kansas City's baseball legacy. While the Royals have not commented directly on the proposal, the team stated it is working toward the best solution for the team, fans, and the community.

And just over a month, the Kansas City Royals will hit the diamond once again for spring training. But a new season means they're one season closer to the end of their lease and the need for a new home. Kansas City has been pushing for downtown baseball, especially after the Chiefs announced their move to Kansas last month. Kansas City Mayor Lucas has repeatedly highlighted Washington Square Park near Union Station. But there are also recent talks of bringing baseball back to its roots in Kansas City, 18th and Vine KSHB 41 Todd Palmer shares the voice of a baseball guru, Pop Kendrick. Mhm. A group of legislators hoping to keep the Royals in Kansas City, Missouri, as the search for a new stadium site continues, heard a new pitch from developers over the weekend. The 18th and Vine Truman Road area really is the heartbeat of Kansas City baseball. State Representative Mark Sharp was there as developers took a swing at reviving the idea of a stadium near the 18th and Vine Jazz District. When the Royals began touting a downtown stadium as a home run, the club studied the site, which includes the Casey A. T. A. Offices and Fleet Yard northwest of 18th and Vine. Most of that history was made here in this area. So how special would it be to have a ballpark back in this area? It's where the Negro Leagues were founded in 1920 and where the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum keeps that history alive. This just falls right in line with how the game and its history is connected in Kansas City. Neighborhood revitalization efforts already include a new Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and hotel project. John Sherman has made it pretty clear. I think that he wants to have a lasting legacy on the communities here in Kansas City. It would change the dynamic and the landscape of this area and the east side proper for decades to come. A stadium project in that area also would help connect downtown the crossroads and 18th and Vine. It's exciting to at least have these conversations. Don't know where they're going to go, but they haven't just been put the stamp on and said no go until that happens. Hope springs eternal. The Royals declined to comment on the idea, but a team spokesman said the club continues quote working hard toward the best solution for the team, fans and community end quote in Kansas City.
