Dangerous heat will continue in the West this weekend. Look for highs in the 90s and triple digits Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Records could fall in Seattle, Portland and Las Vegas.

A major heatwave is impacting the western United States, with dangerously high temperatures forecast for several regions. Cities such as Medford and Portland in Oregon, as well as Ely in Nevada, are expected to break longstanding temperature records. 

Extreme heat warnings are in place for the Pacific Northwest, the deserts of California, and southern Nevada and Arizona. Temperatures are predicted to reach triple digits in many areas, with Seattle potentially nearing 90 degrees, and California deserts exceeding 110 degrees.

Dangerous heat grips West, records could fall

This weekend it's going to be, you know, borderline dangerously hot for folks that are going to be out and about. We're going to be seeing heat build for folks up and around the Pacific Northwest. Will stay steady in Phoenix and Vegas. Extreme heat warnings there all the way into the deserts of California. Bottom line is it's going to be borderline miserable for you. High temperature today. Let's take a look at some of these records from Medford, Oregon, which is kind of the southern section of the state of Oregon on that I5 corridor. I mean, your forecast is 105 for today. The old record or the current records 104, which it does look like will beat that going back to 1988. Look at Portland, Oregon. That record go back to 1942. We're going to beat it by a couple degrees. That's not good. Ely, Ely, Nevada, which is in the northern section of Nevada. You guys could break records that's up in the Great Basin, so we're going to be hot everywhere. Seattle today at 87. Portland could hit that 101 will be triple digits down I5. Once you get into California, 110 plus for the deserts of Arizona and Southern Nevada. We head into Sunday. We could be flirting with 90 now in Seattle, which is hot enough.
