More details are coming out about a father who jumped into the ocean to save a child who fell overboard while on a Disney cruise.

A child fell overboard from the fourth deck of a Disney cruise ship as it was returning to South Florida from the Bahamas. Her father immediately jumped into the ocean to rescue her, and the two spent approximately 20 minutes treading water before being rescued by a ship's rescue boat. 

The incident occurred in a recreational area of the ship, which is protected by plexiglass barriers. The exact circumstances of how the child fell are still unknown, and Disney has not provided further details. Witnesses described a rapid emergency response from the crew, who turned the ship around and deployed a smaller vessel to retrieve the father and daughter. Both were safely rescued.

Now, CBS News correspondent Cristian Benavides is live in Miami right now with the latest on this, and I think everyone's asking, how did the child fall overboard? Do we know yet? Juliette, it's really quite a mystery. So this apparently happened on the fourth deck, according to witnesses and passengers who were on board. Now, the fourth deck is a recreational area, so you don't have staterooms there. What you do have is plexiglass that is supposed to protect people from falling overboard, particularly someone who is a young girl, not very tall. Truly quite a mystery, unclear as to how that happened, and Disney has not said exactly how it is that that happened, but by all accounts, this led to a miraculous rescue. Now, after the young girl falls into the open ocean, her father jumps after her, and the two are treading water for about 20 minutes as a rescue boat goes out to get them. A witness I spoke to described the chaotic scene. She said that she heard what's essentially the emergency signal over the loudspeakers, the signal that someone had gone overboard and saw quickly a staff jumped into action, and in fact, the ship was going so fast that it had to turn around in order to be able to get back to where the father and daughter were at and be able to deploy that smaller vessel in order to rescue them.
