Didulo and her group had been living in a former school in Richmound for two years, and their presence had led to community concerns, including harassment and intimidation of local officials. The group, associated with the QAnon movement, claims exemption from Canadian laws and has previously been involved in confrontations with authorities in other provinces. Investigations are ongoing, and provincial agencies are also assessing the habitability of the group's residence.

Romana Didalo and 15 others were taken into custody after a raid involving some 30 police cars, two tactical vehicles, drones, and a pair of SWAT units. The next phase of the investigation is now in its early stages. Investigators are still in the process of searching the building, collecting evidence, and interviewing those arrested. Police say the operation was sparked by reports of an individual with a firearm. They say they seized four replica handguns. For two years, Didalo and her followers have lived in a former school in the village of Richemount, population just over 100, and 365 kilometers west of Regina. In July, the village office closed its doors to the public outside prearranged appointments due to harassment and intimidation of staff. It's so great that we have finally gotten some movement. It's been like, you know, a lot of the community members are very, very frustrated. Saskatchewan isn't their first home. She and her followers have moved across Canada. In Peterborough, Ontario, some of them were charged for trying to arrest local police officers. Didalo says she was just an observer. The group is on the radar of some who monitor cults. So she tells them that she is the ultimate authority, that she is the ruler under natural law. She is effectively the supreme ruler of all the land. She tells them they don't have to pay taxes. The group is tied to the QAnon movement, believing Canada's laws do not apply to them and has expressed violent anti-vaccination messages. RCMP in Saskatchewan say they have 24 hours after an arrest to lay charges. In the meantime, provincial agencies are conducting their own investigations, which could rule that the building is uninhabitable. Alexander Kwan, CBC News, Regina.
