Although the current plan is to keep the headquarters in D.C., Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen has stated that efforts to relocate the agency are ongoing, indicating that the issue remains unresolved.

First things first, Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen says this fight is far from over. This back and forth has been going on for more than a decade with the hopes and the plans that the FBI headquarters would be moved to Greenbelt, Maryland. Then on July 1st, the Trump administration saying, nope, it would be right here at the Reagan building in downtown D.C. And I want to underscore the fact that my original amendment with respect to the funds that have been set aside to build the FBI at a site that was selected was not just about Maryland and Van Hollen. This was actually a bipartisan process over many years. Now, last week, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed Senator Van Hollen's amendment to stop the Trump administration from using the funds for anything other than relocating the FBI headquarters to Greenbelt, Maryland. That's a site chosen by the General Services Administration. Back in 2023, Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski voting for the amendment, initially causing a snag in the spending bill. Well, today, a reversal. That Senate Appropriations Committee vote coming in at 15 to 14, removing Van Hollen's amendment, a move senators say was unprecedented. And it comes after Murkowski reportedly spent an hour talking with FBI Director Kash Patel. It was certainly not my intention to be purposefully disruptive, but it was my intention to try to discern a little more information about how we arrived to the decision within this CJS bill with regards to the Ronald Reagan building. Now, a timeline to move hundreds of FBI employees over here to the Reagan building has not been made clear yet. Currently, this houses Customs and Border Protection, the EPA, lots of other private offices. But again, Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen saying this fight is not over yet. Guys. All right.
