The current ordinance sets a curfew of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for those under 16, and midnight to 5 a.m. for those aged 16 and 17. Mayor Aftab Puriwal's motion includes eight action items, with curfew enforcement and recommendations for potential changes at the top of the agenda. City officials emphasize the importance of parental accountability and effective enforcement, noting a recent decrease in violent crime following a previous spike. The council aims to ensure the curfew is applied fairly and efficiently.

Now with a special City Council meeting set for Wednesday, Mayor Aftab Puriwal's motion includes action for city administration to enforce that curfew ordinance as well as review the text inside it. From the perspective of residents like Robert Hayton, well you know I believe that there should be a curfew. Kids should learn their most important lessons inside the home. Children are to be led and taught by their parents. They shouldn't necessarily be out in extreme hours trying to get educated from the streets. And the consequences for breaking curfew don't fall on the kids alone. And I think parents need to be held accountable. According to the city's curfew ordinance, curfew for minors under the age of 16 is 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Curfew for minors 16 and 17 is midnight to 5 a.m. Now the city plans to enforce it. We are working right now with our various partners to make sure that when we do enforce the curfew that we're doing it in the most effective, effective and just way. Mayor Aftab Puriwal's motion for Wednesday's meeting includes eight action items. Curfew enforcement, review and recommendations are at the top of the list. Potentially offer some changes to make it um frankly easier to deploy in a more effective way. Chief Teresa TG reported that violent crime is down over the last four weeks since a spike back in june. Our real true effort was to stabilize and stop the rise. So the decrease is just a really good reflection of the work the officers are doing.
