A powerful winter storm has struck the eastern United States, resulting in hazardous driving conditions and significant disruptions. Whiteout conditions on Interstate 81 in Lafayette, New York, caused a massive pileup involving dozens of vehicles and tractor trailers, while similar multi-car accidents were reported throughout the region.

Heavy lake effect snow led to the closure of parts of Interstates 80 and 90 in western Pennsylvania for several hours. The storm also brought a surge of arctic air, causing wind chills as far south as Florida, where iguanas were reported to freeze in place due to the cold.

It's just one of several multi car wrecks across the region as bands of heavy lake effect snow caused major problems in western Pennsylvania. Parts of both interstates 80 and 90 were shut down for several hours behind the snow. A blast of arctic air sending shivers down into the south where wind chills caused iguanas in south florida to freeze in their tracks.
