Barnaby Joyce has formally joined Pauline Hanson's One Nation party, announcing the move on community radio in Tamworth. The former Nationals leader will serve out his current term as MP before seeking a Senate seat in 2028.

Barnaby Joyce, former leader of the Nationals, has officially joined Pauline Hanson's One Nation party. The announcement was made on a Tamworth community radio station, with Joyce expressing respect for Hanson and her political influence. 

Joyce's defection comes as One Nation's popularity reaches a record high, with a recent poll showing a 14% primary vote. Joyce will continue as MP for New England before campaigning for a New South Wales Senate seat in the 2028 federal election.

There'll be some hurt in this decision and I understand that but I believe that the best thing for me to do for my nation. You've got to leave the dance with the person who brought you to the dance. Now when Barnaby and Pauline butt heads, which they will, let's see what happens then. While the move wasn't seen as a surprise Barnaby Joyce's defection to One Nation could prove to be a problem for the coalition as the popularity of the once fringe political party continues to grow. The latest resolve poll has One Nation's primary vote at 14 percent, a record high, while support for the coalition has fallen. Well the coalition is now so bad that not even Barnaby Joyce wants to hang around. Mr Joyce will serve out his term as an MP in New England before campaigning for a New South Wales Senate seat at the 2028 federal election.
