Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made a brief visit to South Africa, meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa ahead of the G20 summit. During the visit, Albanese discussed progress on a free trade agreement between Australia and the European Union, which has been under negotiation since 2018 and could include the removal of a luxury car import tax.

Albanese also paid tribute to former Australian leaders Malcolm Fraser and Bob Hawke for their anti-apartheid efforts, with their names added to Freedom Park in Pretoria. The G20 summit is set to begin, with Albanese emphasizing the importance of leadership and cooperation among the world's largest economies, despite the absence of a key leader from the United States.

Stacks on with the leaders of the EU as Australia inches closer to finalising a free trade agreement that's been in the works since 2018. We both know that the last mile is always the hardest. Which could include a tax on luxury car imports into Australia being scrapped. Well, it won't be finalised today, that's for sure. But we are closer than we were before. What I'd like to see is it finalised in the first quarter of 2026. This would be very important. The Prime Minister wasting no time during his lightning visit to South Africa on the eve of the G20, meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But we have much to discuss and our relationship is very strong, never stronger. That's despite this year's Quad Leaders' Summit between Australia, the US, India and Japan being delayed due to Donald Trump pulling the pin. India's due to host the Quad and I'd be very hopeful that the Quad will be hosted in India next year. Anthony Albanese also met the host country's president. Just putting rivalries aside, at least for a moment. We do compete on the field. Yes. You usually win in rugby. We're glad you're here. While also paying tribute to Australian leaders of the past, Malcolm Fraser and Bob Hawke added to the wall of names at Freedom Park in Pretoria...
