His radical economic policies, cutting state spending to the bone to try to control rampant inflation, have hit pensioners and the health and education systems hard. These protesters are not fans of their president's showbiz style. We're here because we're against this government of hunger, of unemployment, of misery. After less than two years in office, Milet's government has also been rocked by several scandals. One involving his sister and political advisor Karina, after a series of audio recordings were leaked, linking her to alleged corruption and bribery. Then when close ally Jose Luis Esperet was forced to stand down as a candidate in this month's elections, accused of taking huge sums of money from a drug trafficker. This is going to be a book launch. It's also a rock concert, but mostly it's a political rally, less than three weeks before midterm elections that are likely to determine whether President Milet's economic plan is going to be a miracle or a disaster. Two of Milet's most avid supporters are President Donald Trump and the International Monetary Fund, both of which have pledged billions of dollars to bolster the Argentinian economy before the elections. Milet is also proposing tremendous change, but he hasn't really tended to this need for people to be reassured. We're going to make these changes and then everybody will have to fend for themselves. Milet says the severe economic crisis caused the radical economic measures. His opponents call his performance a distraction from scandal and the hardships caused by his government's policies.
