The matches that marked the return of away fans proceeded without violence, and officials are treating these events as test cases for the possible broader reinstatement of away fan attendance.

Both this match and another played in Cordoba between Instituto and River Plate were test cases, watched closely by police, politicians and the football authorities. This is an historic day because it's the return of away fans. It's a new start for the clubs that can and have the conditions and who want to accept fans. Because not everyone wants to see the return of travelling football fans, remembering the violence that resulted in the ban being implemented in the first place. The final straw when a Lanús supporter was killed in 2013 by a police rubber bullet fired at close range. The 191st fan killed in football-related violence in Argentina since 1939. The return passed without violence and the added bonus for these fans, a 1-0 victory with a penalty from their star player, Ángel de María, to celebrate on the long journey home.
