A week and a half after deadly floods struck Texas, a new round of heavy rain is slowing down the process of recovery and cleanup and leading to even more flooding.

Texas is experiencing another wave of flooding, complicating recovery efforts following deadly floods that recently struck the region. In Central Texas, particularly Kerrville, search operations for flood victims were temporarily halted due to new storms. The Associated Press reports at least 132 fatalities from the earlier floods, with over 160 people still missing in Kerr County alone. Recent rainfall has led to rapid rises in river levels, especially the San Saba River, keeping the area at moderate flood stage and prompting continued flash flood warnings.

While some improvement is expected as river levels gradually decrease, scattered thunderstorms and additional rainfall remain a concern due to already saturated ground. Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant for further flash flood warnings and to be mindful of high temperatures, which could pose additional health risks during the ongoing recovery process.

Another round of flooding strikes Texas as recovery continues

We, of course, are continuing to track the situation in Texas as we had more flooding over the weekend and even more flooding today. Now we begin with the latest out of Central Texas in Kerrville. The search for flood victims was temporarily halted yesterday as another round of storms hit the region. That's right, it was the first delay since the July 4th floods, which killed at least 132 people, according to the Associated Press. Now the AP also says that more than 160 people are still missing just from Kerr County alone with 10 or more unaccounted for nearby. This afternoon, Texas Governor Greg Abbott spoke the strength of the community after the tragic flooding. It was those people who who lived there. They came up and said, listen, we're community where Texas strong. We're hanging together and their neighbor helping neighbor. And so I was impressed once again with the strength and commitment and moral clarity of our fellow Texans for uniting at a time. As tough as this is. And over the last couple of days we saw another round of high rain totals. Some areas got 8 inches of rainfall South of Kerrville. We had just about 6 1⁄2 inches of rainfall, 8 1⁄2 inch rain totals a little bit farther to the South there. Now over the next day or two, we're going to be watching the rivers because part of the problem was, of course, the rain totals. But then we also had the creeks, the streams, the rivers that just rose rapidly once again very similar to what we saw last weekend. Some different rivers compared to last week in the Guadalupe River was one that we had a lot of focus on, but this weekend it was the San Saba River that rose very, very rapidly and still you do not want to be near the river because we're still at moderate flood stage. This evening we do expect these river levels to go down as we go through tomorrow and through the rest of the week. That's the good news, and that also means we are not at the end of heavy rainfall. We're not totally done with the rain. Take a look at radar looped over the last couple of hours. You can see how the situation has been improving throughout the afternoon we had flash flood warnings in effect for a lot of us, including into Kerrville. But now, yes, we still have rain in the area, but it's not the heavy downpours that we were seeing. We're not completely done yet with the heavy rainfall, though throughout the afternoon into the evening hours. We are going to see some scattered thunderstorms pop up once again. Some of these can have some significant heavy downpours. Some can be on the slower moving side as well, but the worst of the rainfall was earlier when we talk about today. As we look ahead to tomorrow, things are also improving. We are not completely dry, though. That's the thing we have. Kind of two different factors we have to look at. We are looking in another round of some scattered thunderstorms. Now how much impact this has? Depends on exactly where these thunderstorms pop up. It depends on exactly how slow moving they are, because really at this point any additional rainfall. It's going to exacerbate the current situation. The ground is just so so saturated at this point because of all of the flooding like the images you're seeing on the right hand side of your screen so any additional rainfall into places like Kerrville is going to lead to some more flash flooding. Even if it's not the type of rainfall that we saw today, not the type of rainfall that we saw yesterday. So we've been saying it the last couple of days, but make sure you are staying weather aware as we go into tomorrow because we could see some additional flash flood warnings issued. But even though you don't see those thunderstorm icons on the map here, the temperatures are another thing to pay attention to. I know somewhere like Kerrville. We see 93 that doesn't look too bad. Somewhere like Kerrville, Austin, San Antonio, you're in the feels like 100 to 105 range. This continues as we head into Wednesday as well. These are Accuweather real field temperatures for Wednesday. We're still in that 100 to 105 range. I mean, even farther to the east, we're in the 105 to 110 real field ranges, so this is where you have to think about the rain and any additional flooding. But you also have to think about heat related illness.
