The White House has fired another member of the watchdog board that oversees Puerto Rico's finances. The move comes after the White House terminated five of the seven members of the board earlier this month.

The Puerto Rico oversight board has been reduced to a single member after another board member was dismissed. This situation casts uncertainty over the board's ability to approve budgets and oversee the restructuring of the island's power utility debt, as Puerto Rico cannot spend money without the board's approval.

While the Commonwealth's operating budget for the year has already been approved, the lack of a functioning board means further decisions are stalled. The responsibility to appoint new board members now falls to the White House and Congress, with questions remaining about how long the process will take and what stance the new members will have toward bondholders.

What on earth is going on with this oversight board Michelle. It's it's pretty crazy. A lot has happened over the past week and especially even yesterday with the firing of another board member. So now we're just down to one last board member John Nixon. And we're going to find out we're going to see it's up in the air exactly what can the board do now. So it seems doubtful that they can approve budgets and can they move forward with prep is the power utility with their debt restructuring. We need to wait and see what's going to happen. Controls this process because essentially Puerto Rico can't spend any money without this oversight board giving the go ahead. And if it's one person it's not going to happen. Sure. The Puerto Rico does have the Commonwealth does have its operating budget now that it passed earlier this year and the board approved. And that's all good. So their day to day operations they can do the Puerto Rico government can do what it needs to do. The what's at issue here is what will happen now is this goes back to the White House and Congress to put in new board members. And the question is how long is that going to take and who are those people going to be. And are they going to be more are they going to be friendlier to the bondholders than maybe the prior board.

The Washington, D.C., police chief will remain in command of the local force following a settlement with the Trump administration over the federal takeover, but they are required to cooperate with the White House's immigration policy.
